AIR FRYER FAQ'S

WHAT IS AN AIR FRYER?

An air fryer is a large countertop appliance that prepares perfectly fried food using very little oil (on average less than a tablespoon).
In essence, the air fryer is a mini convection oven that cooks by circulating hot air around the inside with a fan. When food is cooked by convection, one can achieve the crispiness of fried food while using far less oil.
The intense hot air is ideal for roasting and allows you to cook dishes that you would have otherwise cooked on the grill or in the oven.

HOW DOES AN AIR FRYER WORK?

An air fryer uses a convection mechanism to heat up food - this appliance consists of a heating element to transfer heat to the food drawer and a strong fan that circulates the heat.
Food is placed in the food-drawer and closed. The compact food-drawer size aids in faster, more efficient cooking.

ARE AIR FRYERS HEALTHY?

The fact that an air fryer uses less oil makes it the healthier alternative. It reduces cholesterol content and calories. Some of the adverse effects of eating deep-fried food include heart complications like thrombosis, obesity as well as liver problems.
Instead of using liters of oil, you can achieve beautifully crisp results in chips, chicken, fish, and more.
Because fat is essential for that ‘fried’ flavor, air-fried foods taste a lot leaner - in this instance, an oil spray bottle can be used to mimic the deep-fried taste.
In conclusion, an air fryer gives you the same crispy result without the health implications.
There are many health benefits to this electronic appliance.

DO I NEED TO PREHEAT THE AIR FRYER?

An air fryer heats up much faster than an oven and there is no need to Preheat.

HOW MUCH FOOD CAN AN AIR FRYER HOLD?

Most standard air fryers can fit two to four servings depending on the food - it is important not to overfill the basket.
If you choose to make multiple batches, start checking the second batch for doneness a few minutes earlier as the air fryer will have already been hot from the first batch.

HOW DO I PREVENT FOOD FROM STICKING TO MY AIR FRYER?

For foods that are prone to sticking such as delicate fish and recipes that include cheese, we recommend using foil to line the base of your basket. You can also lightly spray vegetable oil on the base of the basket to assist with removal.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY AIR FRYER?

The removable parts of the air fryer such as the basket are dishwasher safe. The main body of the air fryer must not be immersed in water, but it needs to be cleaned from time to time as grease and splatters can build up around the heating element and cause smoking. Ensure that the air fryer is completely cool before cleaning - use a mild detergent and a soft cloth to wipe it down. Also, wipe the outside of the air fryer after every use and once the air fryer has cooled down.

WHAT DO I DO IF I SMELL SMOKE WHILE AIR FRYING, OR IF MY AIR FRYER STARTS TO SMELL FUNNY?

Do not forget to clean your air fryer regularly.
A smoking, smelly air fryer is the first sign of a dirty air fryer. If you see excessive smoke or smell burning even though your food is not burnt, be sure to clean the area around the heating element of your air fryer to remove built-up residue.

DO YOU PUT OIL IN AN AIR FRYER?

Yes, you do, but very sparingly ‐ a single tablespoon of oil is sufficient ‐ if you do not want to use any oil at all, that is also fine ‐ just be sure to shake/turn your food regularly to avoid sticking.

WHAT FOOD CAN YOU COOK WITH AN AIR FRYER?

Vegetables
Frozen foods such as samosas, chips, burger patties, nuggets, and strips
Cakes and muffins
Breakfast food items such as bacon and sausages
Pork beef, chicken and mutton, and salmon
Warm-up and reheat leftovers too.

IS AN AIR FRYER THE SAME AS A CONVENTIONAL OVEN?

While there are many similarities, I would not say that this is so ‐ they are more like siblings.
An air fryer can mimic deep frying and warm up leftovers - things that an oven cannot do.
A conventional oven is bigger in size and facilitates a larger, more traditional cook.

IS AN AIR FRYER BETTER THAN AN OVEN?

Both have pros and cons, while the kitchen appliance will save you time and energy, an oven will allow you to do larger cooks.
It is fair to say that none is better than the other. They just perform different roles to their own standards.

IS AN AIR FRYER THE SAME AS AN OVEN?

Although they function in a similar manner, the air fryer is completely different from an oven in size and in the results you will get.

DO AIR FRYERS CAUSE CANCER?

There has never been any instance in which an oven has been reported to cause many diseases such as cancer.
The air fryer does not emit any magnetic rays or chemicals onto the food. It only emits heat.
The heat emitted in the air fryer is also not as high as those emitted by other cooking appliances, which may result in the formation of acrylamide, which is a carcinogen that causes muscle weakness and impaired muscle function when one has been exposed to it in large doses.

ARE AIR FRYERS TOXIC?

It is important to regularly and thoroughly clean your air fryer. Much like in a conventional oven, old food residues that have gone off, that contaminate fresh food, have been known to cause mild stomach aches.
Hygiene is very important when using your air fryer, as well as any other kitchen appliance.

DOES AN AIR FRYER MAKE FOOD CRISPY?

Yes!
An air fryer crisps to perfection. For an even crunchier crisp, the addition of black pepper, garlic, or coriander will do just the trick.

IS AN AIR FRYER GOOD FOR KETO?

Be it a low-carb, keto, or even paleo-diet, the air fryer is the perfect companion to help prepare a specialized meal.
The trick here is the recipes though, try downloading or purchasing Keto recipes, especially those designed to be prepared in an air fryer.

CAN YOU USE ALUMINIUM FOIL IN THE POWER AIR FRYER OVEN?

Yes, you can.
Just be careful not to place foil where it can disrupt airflow, just as right at the bottom of the dish. Also make sure that the foil does not hang out over the edge of the basket, always ensure that there is food weighing down the aluminum foil so as to avoid it getting sucked up into the heating element.
Either that, using foil is an easy way to cut down the cleaning time.

CAN YOU PUT A LIQUID IN AN AIR FRYER?

Yes, you can ‐ just be careful with your amounts.
Some moisture from marinades shouldn't be a problem and adding a teaspoon while cooking is also recommended, although not necessary.
Just be careful with the amounts.

WHY DO AIR FRYERS SMOKE SO MUCH?

Any food cooked in a pan with a lot of oil will smoke ‐ foods with a high fat content may also smoke more than others ‐ fix this by intermittently draining any excess fat.
In some cases, the coating on your foods, if not properly done, such as breadcrumbs and flour, can get sucked up into the element and burn.
Light foods may be blown around in your air fryer ‐ use a toothpick to hold them down.
Remember to regularly clean your air fryer- greasy build-up from previous cooks can also cause smoke.

DO YOU HAVE TO SPRAY AN AIR FRYER?

This is completely up to you.
Spraying is better than pouring oil, it ensures we use less oil and promotes even distribution of the oil.

CAN I OPEN THE AIR FRYER WHILE COOKING?

Yes, you can - try not to open it too often when cooking sensitive foods or baking though as this would lead to loss of heat.

CAN AN AIR FRYER HELP CUT FAT CONTENT?

Along with avoiding cooking in oil, and because of the air fryer's design, food with a high-fat content, such a chicken skin, will drain slightly in the air fryer, improving the overall fat content of the air fryer.

ARE AIR FRYERS MESSY?

A compact design and removable washable parts as well as the minimal use of utensils make an air fryer a neat and easy appliance to use.
